The Types of Electronic Dog Training Collars: A Brief Overview
The invention and proliferation of electric dog training collars resulted in a much easier, less time consuming dog training. Those pet owners who find it tough to impart behavioral training by other means can now enjoy the comforts of getting their dogs trained with ease in short timeframes, using electronic dog training collars.
Kinds
Based on the type of correction stimulus, electric dog training collars can be categorized into three different types. These include electric dog training collars, sonic collars and citronella spray collars.
Electric Collars
These collars operate by offering a harmless, mild static electric shock when the collar senses the vibrations of the vocal chord of the pet. There are a few methods to this as some products require the owner to make the correction with the push of a button.
The main advantage of the electronic collar is that it teaches a dog that barking is not allowed in certain situations, such as late at night or when visitors arrive. It is also a very easy to use tool. The challenge that is associated with this type of collar however, is the ambiguity regarding the usage of static electric shock to train dogs.
Sound Collars
The second type of electronic dog training collar is the sonic collar. These sonic collars emit a sound that only dogs can hear and which prevents them from keep barking. These collars are usually preferred by those who think that the ones that deliver static shocks are unethical and cruel.
Citronella Spray Collars
This third type of collars offer a different approach. They are equipped with a canister which sprays the citronella when it detects the vibrations caused by barking. Being harmless, this proves to be the best of all the electronic dog training collars available, though the use of it necessitates refilling the canisters used.
