Training Collars: A Responsible Choice
These days, dog training collars are more of a need than a luxury for dog owners who are responsible about their pets. Laws today penalize dog owners when their pets bark too much at night or growl or attack at people, and even just a carefree play can be mistaken for an attack by a surprised stranger. Dogs just follow their natural instincts, of course, and it takes some training to make it behave and keep itself and its owner out of danger and trouble. Therefore, the demand for training collars of several types has increased lately.
Choker Collars
Some people consider these dog training collars ethical while others prefer the old fashioned leash. These collars restrain dogs from pulling away from the leash, as well as from incurring in other types of bad behavior. These collars have proven useful for teaching young puppies or newly adopted dogs to behave when in the prescence of people or other dogs. Dogs learn that by not launching themselves at anything that moves, the choking sensation that the collar gives will be gone. For dogs that are too stubborn, or that have with very thick skins, there are some choking collars that feature some soft protuberances that increase the feeling. These types of collars also stop any sensation to the dog as soon as this one relaxes.
Electronic Dog Collars
These collars work by delivering a small static electricity shock to dogs when they bark. There is a small device in this collar that detects vibrations in the dog’s throat caused by barking. These collars are not cruel, since it’s not an electic shock, like the ones seen in cartoons, but a static feeling, similar to the one we get when we walk on carpets. This can work well as long as the owner is constantly there to monitor his or her dog.
