If you are thinking about an electric pet fence for your pet, you can find a world of electric dog fence reviews on the web.  Each and every store has their own site with customer reviews or endorsements and advertising, but how can you tell if the review is worthwhile?  After all, is any store going to say unfavorable things about their own merchandise?

The first tip in looking through the thousands of reviews is to see how long it has been posted on the site. You can buy a self-install method or use a local invisible fence company to help you install the system.  Most people are capable of putting a fence themselves and save a few bucks.  For a company to stay in business for many years implies that they are doing everything right, and you can consider the brand of fencing they use to be trustworthy.

There are a lot of different companies that have electric fences. Features to look for in a quality fence include high gage wire that can last through time underground, collars that are adjustable, and receivers that can be changed to several settings.  Make sure to purchase a collar that fits your dogs’s size. Just because the collar is adjustable, doesn’t necessarily mean it would be safe on your dog. For instance, a collar for a Boxer may adjust to 6 inches but would not be safe for a Chihuahua.  Try to find a fence that can be expanded.

If you have one pet, a basic setup will do but if you own several pets, you want to be able to add several collars to the same system.  Some units are also adjustable enough to allow you to use movable transmitters inside your house to keep your pets out of certain spots or off the furniture.  If this is an important detail of your system, make sure it is an available feature.

If you are not going to a local company to do your installation, the most helpful place to find all your equipment and look at the incredible variety of systems available is the web.  You can find just about every unit you can imagine, and take your time making up your mind.  Make sure to buy a fence that has a decent warranty, just in case you have one of those dogs that just won’t stay inside the invisible fence.
