Continuous dog barking can be one of the worse things that we have to endure.   If it`s our dog that`s making the noise then it`s a real problem.   We live on top of each other and this kind of behaviour can cause neighbour disputes and even eviction in apartments if it is deemed that we are not in control of our dog..   However barking dog training is easy to undertake provided you have the best equipment.

You cannot expect you dog to stop barking altogether that would be similar to asking a human being never to talk.   Anyway most dog owners agree that a barking dog is a good protection and an outstanding burglar alarm.

We need to teach our dog when it is appropriate to bark and when it isn`t.    Like humans, dogs `speak` for many reasons and the majority of these are legitimate.   Dogs bark because they are excited, to alert  attention and to convey a message.    Command barks, need barks, playful barks, alarm barks and warning barks are all legitimate.   We have a behavioural problem when barking becomes continuous.

By training your dog to bark on command you could also enable you to control your dog to be quiet on command.   Most of us do not have the time to do this so there are a few things which can provide immediate resolution to the barking dog problem.

1 Ultrasonic devices.
These emit an ultrasonic sound when the dog barks which humans can’t hear but which distracts the dog.   There are collar, stand alone and handheld versions of this device.   Collar devices react whenever the dog barks   You simply place the stand alone device in your home or garden.   A bonus of this device is that it can be used to intetrupt your neighbour’s dogHandheld ultrasonic devices have a button on them which on pressing sends out a correction signal.   These can be useful if you are bothered by barking dogs when out walking, jogging or bike riding.

2 Spray.
Citronella bark collars are spray devices.   They automatically spray citronella, which most dogs do not like, every time the dog barks thus providing negative reinforcement to the bark.

3 Electronic devices.
Professional dog trainers consider electronic bark collars to be a fast and effective solution to nuisance barking.   Some still believe that there is something cruel or inhumane about electronic collars.   The modern electronic collar is very clever and not at all cruel as they might have been a few years ago. A mild shock is administered to the dog.   The bark triggers the first warning which is the mildest. If the dog barks again within 30 seconds the shock is intensified slightly.   The shock is gradually stepped up to its 6th and final level if the dog continues to bark   There are lots of safety measures built in now, for instance, if your dog barks fifteen times during a period of 50 seconds the collar shuts off for three minutes and resets.

So that is all there is to it.   There is no need to put up with continuous dog barking.   Barking dog training with one of the three methods outlined above needs no expertise to use and is usually effective immediately.
