It would really piss you off if your beloved best canine friend is infected with a tick and its infecting your home too. It may be gross just by thinking of it. What really bugs me is that when my well-groomed pug is infected by tick from some dog who’s just roaming around the neighborhood. Cherry B, my beautiful dog has the tick and I’m so sad that I can’t have her in my bed with me.
An advice that you want to take to all you fellow dog lovers, your dog is never immune to tick even if he or she is not raised in farm areas. What you can do to prevent this is to isolate them from other dogs which you do not know. Another, is to brush your dog with anti-tick or anti-flea solution at least once a week. There are other solutions that can last a month. Do not hesitate to inquire from your veterinarian about the best prevention care that you can give to your dog.
If so ever you happen to spot a tick, remove it immediately. There is the right way however on how to do it; doing it wrong will only hurt your canine friend. Removing it improperly might cause infection from the skin of your dog. It is not advisable that you take out the tick without any gloves on. There are some disease-carrying ticks that you might want to avoid.
As for my cherry B, I was not aware of any dog tick medicine that I can give her. So I had to take her to the vet.
For her tick bites, Cherry B was given the Newton Homeophatics Flea and Bug Bite, which is given to the dog through syrup drops. As for the dog tick medicine, a simple Frontline Plus was given and I was told to give Cherry B the medication for until six months. But I was told Cherry B can get back to my bed in three days tops, just to be sure the tick won’t get to me. I don’t think I can drink Frontline Plus.
Because of this, I was forced to be rid of my super fragrant dog shampoo and used Ovitrol Plus Flea and Tick shampoo instead so that the ticks wont get back. It’s not very per-fumy in scent but its prevention is better than cure.
If there are anti-mosquito bracelets there are also anti-tick collars for dogs as sort of a dog tick medicine or prevention. From what I have heard however, these collars are not very effective and ruins the looks of your dog. I think my Cherry B has enough prevention and medication already.
