15 Years and Not a Flea or a Tick

I have been using Advantage since it first came out. Skeptical though I was, after three dogs (in 27 years), I was willing to try anything. Odd that a relatively dry climate produces so many fleas. Originally, it was extremely expensive because it could only be bought at the vet. Now, I have a supplier in Australia where I save about 20% and one through Amazon where I can save 18% over the vet's offices...and there's either no shipping charge (from Australia!) or the charge with shipping is still cheaper.

But cheap isn't what we're looking for. Our Cairn terrier is 13 years old, and what a luck dog he's been: I've NEVER found a flea on him. Or a tick though we don't usually take him into the hills where ticks are more abundant. And we only use it once a month from May through October. It doesn't seem to be necessary in wetter months, but "flea season" in our part of California is heaviest May to October. In fact, I would have to say, flea season varies from city to city just as mosquitoes (and heart worm). We're west of Sacramento where I would recommend Advantage about 10 months out of the year.

Btw, the Advantage we get from Australia is made by Bayer in Germany. I don't know where the U.S. Advantage is manufactured: it doesn't say, but either seems to do the same great job.

One "precaution:" When we leave the dog with friends and the friends have two cats, we give him a dose of Advantage. Their cats get Frontline, and for all I know, it's as good as Advantage. But an ounce of Advantage is worth a pound of cure, and we *all* feel better for it.
